SUMMER breeze makes me feel fine
Remember when I told you that my favorite holiday was Christmas? Well, it still is and will always be. However, I feel like I should fairly point out that the 4th of July holds a close second to my heart.
While I continue to remain ardently in love with the annual anticipation of Fall, it should come as no surprise that I am secretly having a scandalous affair with the anticipation of the Summer Months.
As children, we all look forward to those first glorious moments of summer. NO SCHOOL FOR TWO AND A HALF MONTHS! Solid freedom. This mentality has not changed for me. I still associate summer as a “break” in my yearly schedule.
How do I love the Summer you ask? Let me count the ways:
I adore the smell of the ocean, and the way the sun soaks up the beads of the ocean on my skin, leaving tiny pieces of salt behind. I love reading a good book while listening to the lull of the waves, and hearing the sea gulls talk back and forth to each other as they circle above. I love the colorful array of the bright umbrellas that line the shore on a sunny day, and the sound of children’s laughter as they compete to dig the deepest mote or build the tallest sand castle. I love how the smell of sunscreen lingers everywhere you go, and not having to wear shoes all the time. I love the jump of my heart from the screaming sound a reel makes when a huge Snapper is tugging at the other end of the pole. I love lying in the sun until I’m covered in sweat and then the cool relief that comes with plunging headfirst into the waves. I love battling with my sister about who will be the first one to fall off the inner tube, and the sting of hitting the water at speeds much to fast for my mother’s nerves. I love the sound a can makes when you pop the tab of a really cold soda or beer. I love mixing and matching the pieces to my swimsuits and wearing a different one each day my feet hit the sand. I like the way the salt water makes my hair curl in just the right way, no products necessary. I enjoy wearing my tan lines proudly and having raccoon eyes for a week because I forgot to take off those damn sunglasses. I love climbing to the top of our boat and jumping off the roof with my sister while my mom tries to capture a picture of us in mid-air. I love flip-flops, fruity cocktails, and fresh sea food. I love fun colors and floral prints and sun dresses that are too short.
That’s not everything, but it’s all I have time to list out right now. Why don’t you tell me if I’ve left anything out?
And just a reminder, the first official day of summer is only 120 days away!
